The Rising I – Up the Stairs into the Fire
This piece echoes the chaos, horror, and grief expressed in the song, Into the Fire, from Bruce Springsteen’s album, The Rising, which was his response to the tragic events of 9/11. The song pays tribute to everyone who lost their lives that day, especially the firefighters who sacrificed their lives when they attempted to save the people trapped in the World Trade Center and the twin towers collapsed around them.
It was dark, too dark to see,
You held me in the light you gave
You lay your hand on me,
Then walked into the darkness of your smoky grave
Up the stairs, into the fire.
Bruce Springsteen. “Into the Fire”, 2002.
Up the Stairs was the first song recorded by Springsteen for The Rising.
