The Rising II – Dream of Life
This is the second in a series of pieces inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s album, The Rising, his response to the tragic events of 9/11. The title song summons the image of a preacher offering us — and the first responders and others who perished in the Twin Towers — a message of hope, redemption, and resilience. The various elements in this collage are intended to collectively echo Springsteen’s reference to the “dream of life” that is hypnotically repeated near the end of the song.
Sky of blackness and sorrow (A dream of life)
Sky of love, sky of tears (A dream of life)
Sky of glory and sadness (A dream of life)
Sky of mercy, sky of fear (A dream of life)
Sky of memory and shadow (A dream of life)
Your burning wind fills my arms tonight
Sky of longing and emptiness (A dream of life)
Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life (A dream of life)
