The Death of JFK Jr.
In July 1999, John Fitzgerald Kennedy Jr., son of the assassinated 35th President of the United States, was killed in a plane crash off the south coast of Cape Cod. The private plane that JFK Jr. was piloting crashed into the ocean at night and in foggy conditions near the end of a flight from New Jersey to Martha’s Vineyard. Kennedy’s wife and sister-in-law were also killed in the crash.
The butterflies depicted in this piece represent the eternal beauty of youth. Kennedy was 39 years old at the time of his death.
