Perpetual Angelus
This piece was inspired by the Angelus, a Catholic devotion that commemorates the Incarnation of Christ. It is traditionally recited three times a day, at 6 AM, noon, and 6 PM, in Roman Catholic churches, convents, monasteries, and by the faithful. The prayer is accompanied by the ringing of the Angelus bell, which is a call to prayer and to spread goodwill. The Angelus is a reminder of the Angel Gabriel’s annunciation to Mary, Mary’s fiat, the Incarnation, and Jesus Christ’s passion and resurrection. It is repeated as an invitation to prayer and meditation. Some believe that praying the Angelus each day can add joy, peace, and purpose to everyday life.
